Epidemiological description of HIV patients from national referral hospitals [2015-2016]

Abstract

Introduction: HIV/AIDS is a global health problem, the equator faces this event by focusing its main attention on the specific characteristics of the epidemic, from the clinical, social, economic and cultural points of view. The severity and complexity of this epidemic demands a transdisciplinary and multisectoral response, as well as timely and comprehensive prevention, treatment and support solutions for patients. Materials and methods: The following is a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational and retrospective study in a sample of 874 patients diagnosed with HIV who were selected through simple random sampling from a universe of 1655 patients. Results: The data obtained in the epidemiological analysis were in relation to gender 727 male patients and 145 female patients, 703 cases are between 20 and 49 years old, 44 patients were of first consultation, 859 cases of detectable VC were identified, 754 cases above 200 CD4 and 232 cases treated with TDF/FTC/EFV. Conclusions: The data obtained from the epidemiological analysis carried out, indicate that the predominant population belongs to the male sex, young age, subsequent care, detectable VC, CD4 over 200 and in first ARV treatment scheme (TDF/3TC/EFV).
